In the secluded depths of island mountains, adorned in white silk, fragrance lingers,
Ancient melodies drift with the wind, flowers bloom layer upon layer through the clouds.

Japanese contemporary artist Yoshikazu Yanagi has joined forces with the three major southern Taiwan Taiwanese opera troupes—Xiuqin Opera Troupe, Chunmei Opera Troupe, and Ming Hwa Yuan Tianzi Theatre Group—inviting lyricist and playwright Wang Youhui, composer Zhou Yiqian, arranger Zhu Yunsong, costume designer Jin Pingping, and choreographer Cai Bozhen, among others. Together, they have crafted a work centered on Taiwan's distinctive Phalaenopsis aphrodite orchid, weaving together the transformative journey of Taiwanese opera and the white butterfly orchid.

The story tells of orchid immortals who have flourished in the "Hidden Realm of White Orchids" since ancient times. By chance encountering humans, they suddenly capture the world's attention. Once isolated from the world, these flowers instantly become targets for poachers from all directions. The songs once celebrated on the island gradually fade away as their genes are endlessly replicated. Human desires to pursue pure white and beautiful forms result in artificial cultivation of countless vast and flourishing orchids. Deprived of their voice, the flower immortals can only gaze across the coastline at their fate manipulated by the times and a homeland they can never return to.

Like butterflies fluttering from their homeland, joy and sorrow gather and scatter endlessly,
Drifting across oceans to the world, the orchids' songs continue through generations.

Performance Time: December 25, 2021 (Saturday) 19:30
